Frequent Questions
How big are the turbines?
The machines under consideration are 2.5 megawatt turbines, standing about 250' at the hub of the rotor, and 400' at the tip of the blade at its apex.

How much noise do they make?
Modern wind turbines are surprisingly quiet. The past 20 years has seen major gains in technology, and currently the primary sound is the 'swoosh' of the blade as it passes the tower. There is a quiet hum of the gearbox, which you have to listen for over the sound of the wind itself, which roars through vegetation all around the site.
How many turbines will there be at the Black Oak site?
There will be approximately 20 turbines. Siting and exact number is being determined currently.

How long will they be operating for?
Wind turbines last for 20 to 30 years of nearly continuous operation. They are serviced on a regular basis to maintain their safety and operation.
